Sustainability Initiatives
Our green initiatives include LEED Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council featuring many environmentally friendly resources. In an effort to conserve resources, create an environmentally friendly workplace, and reflect the needs of today’s world, the 221-room Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton hotel located in the Brickell Financial District, downtown Miami, has undertaken a sustainability policy for the benefit of our guests, our team members, our business partners and our community. Enjoy our 4 electric vehicle charging stations, including a Tesla Charging Station, at our parking garage, available 24 hours a day, at no additional charge to our guests.

All sincere efforts are made to implement all of these green features, and more, to be part of our daily operations. See below are the initiatives used, and already planned for a near future incorporated in our business and operational plans.
I. Design
  • More open space, to the extent of 73%, than is required by code at ground level.
  • There will be a continuation of street connectivity to present a pedestrian friendly atmosphere.
  • Multi-level garage, under the hotel tower, to reduce the heat island effect. Louvers and windows provide natural light and ventilation reducing the electric lighting needs and eliminating the need for mechanical ventilation.
  • Large windows in the guest rooms, lobby and other public areas are benefiting from the day light resources, and provide views into the regularly occupied areas of the building.
  • Building is oriented east/west to minimize direct-sun penetration.

II. Water Conservation
  • All guest shower heads and faucets are low-flow valves to reduce water flow.
  • The guest room toilets feature dual flush valve.
  • Lavatory faucets, and toilet flushing in the public restrooms are motion activated.
  • Housing of a 35,000+ gallon cistern to harvest rain water for irrigation and washing exterior surfaces (pool deck, driveways, etc.).
  • Washing machines meet efficiency standard of less than 25 gallons per load.
  • An Ozone Laundry System was installed to reduce the use of chemicals, water and energy. It also helps extend the lifetime of linens and towels.
  • Implemented a linen and towel reuse program that allows guests to choose whether towels and linens are changed daily.
  • Xeriscape and native plant landscaping reducing dependence on the irrigation system.
III. Energy Efficiency
  • An energy management system is featured in each guest room. When no guest is in the room, the A/C adjusts up and lights can be turned off by turning the master-switch off.
  • Virtually no incandescent bulbs are in used. Lighting utilization of Energy Star qualified Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) and more efficient and longer lasting T-8 and T-5 fluorescent lamps and, where appropriate, LED lighting.
  • Where appropriate, occupancy sensors are installed to control lights in public places and in work areas.
  • TVs and other appliances are Energy Star rated.
  • HVAC equipment has the highest level of energy efficiency.
  • The ozone laundry system in our commercial laundry reduces the electricity and gas required for washing and drying linens and towels.
  • Where appropriate, use of low-e glazing to introduce daylight with minimal solar test gain.
IV. Waste Reduction
  • Construction waste was recycled.
  • Biodegradable plates, cups and tableware for use at breakfast.
  • A recycling program was instituted in the public areas (breakfast, meeting spaces and pool area). Housekeeping staff were educated to retrieve recyclable materials from the rooms rather than dump them in the trash.
  • Consideration will be given to have employee uniforms made from recycled materials.
  • When linens, towels and other reusables are no longer satisfactory for guest use, they will be donated to local charities.
  • Where possible, construction materials as well as furniture, fixtures, carpeting, etc., were composed from recycled materials.
  • Consideration will be given to installation of a compactor/bailer to reduce waste and to recycle cardboard and paper products.
  • Most operational and accounting reports are stored electronically rather than printed, saving as much as one ton of paper annually.
V. Indoor Air Quality
  • The entire building is designated as a smoke-free environment.
  • Paint with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were utilized.
  • Housekeeping staff are using environmentally safe, non-toxic cleaning agents that decreases the exposure to toxins both for the housekeeping staff and our guests.
  • All efforts are been made to use wood products that are certified by Smart Wood through the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
VI. Transportation
  • Preferred garage parking spaces will be designated for hybrid and electric automobiles. At this time, four parking spaces have electric vehicle charging stations available 24 hours a day, at no additional charge to our guests. The infrastructure to provide an additional two electric vehicle charging stations has been installed.
  • In a further effort to reduce automobile emissions and reduce oil consumption, guests and employees are encouraged to use the Metrorail and Metro Mover systems (located less than a block from our hotel).
  • For those employees who choose to bike to work, a bike rack is conveniently located near the employee entrance, and showers are available in the employee locker area.
VII. Employee (Team Member) Involvement
  • Employee teams will be created to monitor environmental impact of operations at hotel and personal lifestyle at home.
  • Staff are trained and educated on the importance of resource conservation and sustainability and how to effectively and cooperatively accomplish same.
